Dealing wisely with the Church

There is one authority in a Christian’s life that is not directly addressed in the book of Proverbs simply because it is an authority only revealed in the New Testament. However, it too comes with a little wisdom package to direct your thoughts and behaviour. This unique New Testament authority in a Christian’s life is the local church.

To be a wise churchman or churchwoman is really very simple:

  • attend faithfully (Hebrews 10:24-25),
  • build others up spiritually (1 Thessalonians 5:11; Titus 3:8), and
  • respect the elders when it comes to matters not clearly revealed in Scripture, but still requiring great wisdom and guidance (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13a; Hebrews 13:17).

Are you a wise or foolish person in your relation to your church?
