We pray for ourselves. We pray for our loved ones. We pray for one another at church. How often do you pray for those who are doing the work of ministry? Partly you do so when you pray for one another at church since every Christian is a ministry worker at their churches and in their communities. But do you pray regularly for ministry workers – your church elders (pastors) and deacons, church missionaries, church planters?
Philippians 1:3-11 is a prayer of a missionary to one of his supporting churches. But it is a prayer of ministry participation – ministry work. It can therefore equally well be prayed from the church on behalf of the missionary.
Pray for ministry workers, and as you do,
- pray with joy (vv. 3-5)
- pray for God to continue the work in them personally (v. 6)
- pray as though with them (vv. 7-8)
- pray for their knowledge, wisdom, and personal righteousness (vv. 9-11)
- pray that God is exalted (v. 11)
Pray for the ministry workers you know. Pray this also for those on your church list.
