It is easy to believe that you love your neighbour as God commanded. But until that love is demonstrated through a loving deed, it is merely good sentiment.

Love is patient and kind;
love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrongdoing,
but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things,
believes all things,
hopes all things,
endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Next time you think you love your neighbour, replace the word love with the different items from the verses above and see if you still believe that you truly love your neighbour.

To take your imitation of Christ a step further, write down the name of three individuals that you really struggle to love. Invent ways this day, by the wonderful enabling grace of the Holy Spirit, to practise these deeds of love to those three individuals.

Love is only love when shown.
